Hanoi (VNA) – Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh shared heavy losses sufferedby Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and women who have rendered great services to thenation at a meeting in Hanoi on July 26.

The event was held by the Vietnam Women’s Union(VWU) Central Committee on the threshold of the 70th anniversary of the WarInvalids and Martyrs Day (July 27). 

Over the past 70 years, the Party and State haveissued and improved policies providing preferential treatment for revolution contributors,Thinh said, adding that agencies and localities have also paid due attention toraising living conditions of families of martyrs, war invalids and revolutioncontributors. 

Having applauded efforts made by the VWU and itschapters to honour and care for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and revolutioncontributors, the Vice President voiced her hope that the association willuphold its role and responsibility for the work and raise the awareness among itsmembers about relevant policies and guidelines of the Party and State. 

President of the VWU Central Committee NguyenThi Thu Ha said since 2008, the association’s chapters at all levels havemobilised more than 1 trillion VND (roughly 44 million USD) in support ofVietnamese Heroic Mothers and revolution  contributors and build 50,000 houses forsocial policies beneficiary families, mothers of martyrs and Vietnamese HeroicMothers.-VNA

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).
