VietinBank builds houses for Mekong delta’s poor

The Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) has built 800 houses worth 30 billion VND (1.4 million USD) to disadvantaged households in the Mekong delta provinces of Ca Mau and Hau Giang during 2013-2014, helping them improve their living conditions.

On August 4, the bank and Hau Giang authorities held a ceremony to hand over 200 houses to the poor in the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hau Giang People’s Committee Nguyen Lien Khoa called for support from all sectors to solve housing problem for the under-privileged. He said about 22,000 families in the locality are living under the poverty line who are in need of housing and farming land.

Meanwhile, Ca Mau province has received 600 houses from Vietinbank during 2013 and 2014.

Last year, VietinBank also funded the construction of more than 2,000 houses worth 50 billion VND (nearly 2.4 million USD) for the poor in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.-VNA
