Vietnam affirms reform, int’l integration efforts in WEF Davos 2017

Geneva (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s attendance of the annualmeeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, will highlightVietnam’s determination to promote comprehensive reform and internationalintegration in 2016-2020, a Vietnamese official has said.

In an interview granted to VietnamNews Agency correspondents in Geneva on thethreshold of theevent, Ambassador and Head of Vietnam's permanent delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other organizationsin Geneva Duong Chi Dung detailed the relations between Vietnam and the WEF andevents that the PM will attend.

Through the summit, PM Phuc will affirm Vietnam’s committment to building aconstructive and action-minded government and will highlight the efforts made by the Vietnamese Government toimprove the confidence of the international business community, thus attractingmore foreign investments to Vietnam, Dung said.

The Prime Minister will also promote the position and role of Vietnam, as thehost of APEC 2017, to call for support of the international community for thisevent.

PM Phuc will also deliver a speech at the InformalGathering of World Economic Leaders themed“Responsive and Responsible Leadership in a multi-polar world”, which will emphasisethe Vietnamese Government’s commitment to the country’s comprehensive reformprocess, the diplomat said.

ThePrime Minister will participate in activities to celebrate the 50th foundinganniversary of ASEAN during the meeting and give speeches to highlightVietnam’s contributions to the bloc, he added.

The government leader will also meet with state and government leaders of anumber of countries, representatives of multinational groups and leading enterprisesworldwide, and those from international organisations, the ambassador revealed.

The PM is attending the meeting atthe invitation of the WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab from January 18-21.
Since joining the WEF in 1989, the relations between Vietnamand the WEF have rapidly developed. The forum connects Vietnam with manyleading global corporations, bringing investment and development opportunities.

Vietnam participatesactively in the forum’s initiatives like “New vision for agriculture”, “GrowAsia”, “Green growth Action Alliance”, and “Shaping the Future of GlobalProduction Systems”. Vietnam held the WEF Mekong summit in Hanoi in June lastyear.

So far, a total of 11 big Vietnamese groups have become members of the WEF.They have joined activities of the forum which helps them network and learn experiencefrom other members.
WEFDavos 2017 includes 446 sessions, focusing on promoting global economic growth,embracing inclusive growth, measures to take advantage of the fourth on-going industrial revolution, and shaping global cooperation orientations to effectivelytackle issues related to peace, development and humanity, migration and theenvironment.

The event will include nearly 3,000 participants, including those fromgovernments, international and non-governmental organisations, along with entrepreneurs,scholars, and social activists.

Established in 1971, the WEF is an independent internationalorganisation committed to improving the state of the world by engagingbusinesses, politicians, academics and other leaders of society to shapeglobal, regional and industrial agendas.-VNA

Truong Sa voters cast early ballots for NA, local council elections
