Hanoi (VNA) — Vietnam Airlines aims to carry 25.4 million passengers and 346,000 tonnes of cargo in 2025, up 11.6% and 11.5% year on year, with projected consolidated revenue reaching 116.71 trillion VND (4.46 billion USD), a 3.5% increase over 2024, heard the carrier’s shareholder meeting on June 25.

To reach these goals, the national flag carrier has rolled out a range of measures to improve capacity, boost efficiency, and expand its market presence. Investing in new-generation aircraft was considered a key focus.

Vietnam Airlines Chairman Dang Ngoc Hoa said the airline is preparing for a 92 trillion VND project to acquire 50 new narrow-body jets between 2030 and 2035, designed to enhance fuel efficiency, cut emissions, and improve its competitive edge.

Vietnam Airlines is also upgrading airport infrastructure at major hubs, including Long Thanh and Noi Bai airports, and investing in value-added services like engineering, catering, and logistics to reinforce its value chain.

The carrier added five international routes this year — to Beijing (China), Bangkok (Thailand), Bengaluru and Hyderabad (India), and Busan (the Republic of Korea) — and resumed flights to Moscow (Russia), Bali (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Hong Kong (China). It will also launch new routes to Milan (Italy) in July and Copenhagen (Denmark) in December.

Speaking at the meeting, CEO Le Hong Ha reaffirmed Vietnam Airlines’ ambition to become Southeast Asia’s second-largest airline and one of Asia’s top 10 most preferred carriers. The airline aims to maintain its 4-star Skytrax status and pursue a 5-star rating through a restructuring plan of assets, capital, investments, and governance.

The company continues to advance its digital transformation, partnering with tech firms VNPT and FPT to provide in-flight Wi-Fi and modernise IT systems. Its electronic identification system is already up and running as part of Vietnam’s national digital transformation drive under Resolution 57-NQ/TW.

Sustainability is also a core priority. Vietnam Airlines is pursuing an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap to reduce emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and adopt sustainable aviation fuels. It is also investing in workforce development, corporate culture, and international management practices.

Ha emphasised that Vietnam Airlines will remain committed to its role as the national carrier — delivering high-quality services, boosting economic growth, and enhancing Vietnam’s reputation in global aviation.

Shareholders at the meeting approved the audited financial results for 2024, which showed record-high consolidated revenue of 112.78 trillion VND and after-tax profit of 7.96 trillion VND. That year marked a pivotal recovery for the airline, with 139,700 flights safely operated and 22.75 million passengers carried. On-time performance reached 85%, and fleet availability was 95%. Its network returned to pre-pandemic capacity, spanning 58 international and 38 domestic routes to 52 destinations in 18 countries./.
