Tokyo (VNA) – Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh attended the 17th Conference of the Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 19-21.

The biennial event, which was first held in Malaysia in 1985, acts as an important forum for chief judges, judges, and judicial officials in the region to meet and share experience to improve the efficiency of court operations.

With the theme of strengthening the role of courts in boosting and improving jurisdiction principles, this year’s conference attracted the participation of 34 delegations from countries in the region.

It had six working sessions discussing measures to improve court functions and operations and the quality of human resources, increase public trust in the court system, and examining the efficiency of court operations along with the role of court in dealing with family-related conflicts.

In the second session on increasing public trust in the court system, Vietnam’s Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh gave participants an insight into the relations between courts and media agencies as well as the agencies’ dissemination work about courts’ operations.

Delegates showed interest in Vietnam’s experience in making verdicts and courts’ decisions available online in order to increase publicity and transparency of the courts, ensuring people’s right to access information and strengthening public supervision over the court’s trial activities.

The three-day conference also offered a chance for chief judges and judges to discuss cooperation possibility so as to increase the efficiency of their courts’ operation.-VNA
