Vietnam attends preparatory meeting for 44th, 45th ASEAN Summits

Vientiane (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet attended a preparatory meeting for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings in Vientiane, Laos, on October 7.

Viet, who is also head of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) delegation of Vietnam, and other delegates praised the host country’s all-round preparations for the events and pledged to closely coordinate with Laos and contribute to the success of the meetings.

They also looked into the implementation of the bloc’s initiatives and cooperation priorities this year, the building of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the pathway to carry out the roadmap for Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership, external relations, and other issues of shared concern.

Under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, the meetings will offer an opportunity for countries to discuss and make strategic decisions relating to major issues facing ASEAN and the region as well.

There will be more than 20 activities in Laos from October 8-11, with the attendance of over 2,000 delegates from ASEAN member countries, Timor-Leste, ASEAN’s partner countries, and many regional and international organisations.

The delegates will work on more than 80 documents on various matters, including climate change response, sustainable agricultural development, supply chain connectivity, crime combat, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting, the 28th ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting, and the 35th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting are scheduled for October 8.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will attend the meetings./.
