Sochi (VNA) – Some 150 members of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee led by its first Secretary Le Quoc Phong attended the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students that officially opened in Sochi, Russia, on October 15.
The festival, themed “For peace, solidarity and social justice, we struggle against imperialism – Honouring our past, we build the future”, is organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youths.
Art performances featuring ecosystem protection, poverty and hunger combating and education development were held during the event.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the outstanding contribution youths make to society, and called on young people to build their own future and make the world a better place.
The festival welcomed more than 20,000 youths from about 180 countries. Up to 5,000 volunteers, including 314 foreign ones including Vietnamese were mobilised to support delegates.
Vietnamese delegates will join most of the key activities in the festival from October 12-22, including workshops, seminars, exhibition, bilateral meetings, and musical exchanges.
