Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi recently paid a visit to the state of Tasmania to promote bilateral cooperation in trade, agro-forestry, fishery, education and tourism.

In working sessions with state leaders, Nghi gave participants an overview of Vietnam’s development in recent years.

Appreciating Tasmania’s potential in high-tech agriculture and sustainable tourism, he expressed his hope that the state would share experience with Vietnam and increase cooperation in its advantageous fields.

Tasmanian authorities spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, saying the country is a favourite destination for tourists from Tasmania and Australia in general.

The state’s leaders also expressed their interest in boosting cooperation in trade and education with Vietnam.

Trade between the two sides is still modest, reaching about 120 million AUD (88.6 million USD) in 2014.

On the occasion, Ambassador Nghi visited the University of Tasmania where about 90 Vietnamese students are currently enrolled.

The ambassador suggested the university continue supporting and offering scholarships for Vietnamese students to study agriculture, forestry, and fishery.-VNA
