Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh was pledged to have assistance in improving the country’s capacity of dealing with the consequences of unexploded ordnance (UXO) left over from the wars during his working visit to Australia from April 7-12.

In the host country, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Vinh, who also works as head of the permanent office of the State Steering Committee on the National Mine Action Plan (also known as the Steering Committee 504), paid a courtesy visit to Michael Ronaldson, Minister for Veterans Affairs.

He and his entourage had discussions with Vice Chief of the Defence Force Lieut. Gen. Mark Binskin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Gillian Bird, and key officials from the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, relating to humanitarian cooperation to help UXO victims’ community reintegration.

The Vietnamese delegation also toured a sapper unit and a centre to support mine victims’ social reintegration.-VNA
