Vietnam, Australia hold defence and foreign affairs dialogue

DeputyMinister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son and Deputy Minister of DefenceNguyen Chi Vinh attended the event, together with their Australiancounterparts Gillian Bird and Peter Baxter.

The twosides agreed to continue promoting high-level delegation exchanges andprioritise multi-dimensional cooperation on politics, economics,security-defence, education-training, science-technology, andpeople-to-people exchanges, aiming to deepen the comprehensivepartnership between Vietnam and Australia .

Both nations looked towards stronger coordination and dialogue to buildtrust for peace, stability and development in the Asian-Pacific regionand supported ASEAN efforts to increase solidarity and connectivity witha view to establishing an ASEAN Community by 2015.

They also agreed to increase their affiliation to tackle non-traditionalsecurity threats such as epidemics, climate change, human trafficking,and cyber attacks.

Regarding the East Sea issue, thetwo sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace and stabilityin the region, while ensuring navigation and aviation security andfreedom, and obeying international law, including the 1982 UnitedNations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Theycalled upon the involved parties to address any disputes via peacefulmeans, without the threat or use of force; implement the Declaration onthe Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) fully and seriously; andpromptly devise a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The Australian officials laid emphasis on the development of thecooperative ties with Vietnam and looked forward to Prime MinisterNguyen Tan Dung’s official visit to Australia in early 2015.

The fourth dialogue is scheduled to take place in Vietnam nextyear. Both sides are expecting to reach the signing of a cooperationagreement between the two foreign ministries on addressing unexplodedordnances and supporting national development.-VNA

16th NA reviews amendments to four tax-related laws on April 21

Lawmakers are expected to discuss the supplementary assessment of the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan and state budget, as well as performance in the early months of 2026. Draft law proposes flexible tax thresholds, extended incentives for EVs
