Vietnam, Australia step up defence cooperation

Vietnam expects further support from Australia in the search for Vietnamese soldiers who died or went missing during the war, Deputy Minister of Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem said on September 11.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam expects further support from Australia in thesearch for Vietnamese soldiers who died or went missing during the war, DeputyMinister of Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem said on September 11.

In a meeting with GeneralAngus Campbell in Canberra, Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Chiem, whois deputy head of the National Steering Board for the Search, Repartriation andIdentification of War Martyrs’ Remains, thanked the Australian Department ofDefence for providing Vietnam with a digital database of Missing in Actiondata. He also described this is as a vivid illustration for the AustralianGovernment’s goodwill.

The Vietnamese Government is working out a wide range of measuresto accelerate the search and repatriation of Vietnamese soldiers’ remains, hesaid, asking the Australian side to direct competent agencies to checkdocuments and objects relating to the fallen soldiers.

The national steering board will be responsible for receiving information anddocuments from Australia, the official added.

Campbell, for his part, welcomedrecommendations from Chiem, and expected to further cooperation with Vietnam torecover post-war consequences in the nation.

Vietnam, China step up theoretical exchanges, share Party-building experience

During his working visit to China, Nguyen Xuan Thang, member of the 13th Party Central Committee's Political Bureau and Chairman of the Central Theory Council, had a meeting with Li Shulei, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPC Central Committee’s Secretariat, and Head of the CPC Central Committee’s Publicity Department, during which the two sides held in-depth discussions on theoretical research, practical reviews and Party building, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation and experience sharing between the two Parties.

Vietnam, Russia seek stronger cooperation in policy research, training

Head of the Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies Nguyen Thanh Nghi expressed appreciation for the RANEPA and its predecessor institutions for their contributions to training and fostering Vietnamese officials.
