Vietnam builds barracks for Cambodia

Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence inaugurated a new Vietnam-funded barrack for army training units under the elite Brigade 70 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) on March 31.

Attendants at the opening ceremony included Cambodian RCAFCommander-in-Chief General Pol Saroeun and Vietnamese Defence Attaché toCambodia Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung.

General PolSaroeun thanked Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) on behalf of theRCAF for its support and significant contributions to the forces’development in recent years.

The two nationshave maintained strong defence cooperation, facilitating the growingtraditional bilateral ties, he said.

Accordingto Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung, the barrack was the sixth of its kind to beconstructed in Cambodia using 100,000 USD in financial aid fromVietnam’s MOD.

The facility comprises a residential area, a catering place and tank garages.

Vietnam will provide an additional 4 million USD to the RCAF for itscapital construction under the Vietnam-Cambodia protocol for defencecooperation as inked earlier this year.-VNA

The visit comes as the two countries are actively preparing to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027. Vietnam, RoK promote friendship, mutual understanding

Around 350,000 Vietnamese are currently living, studying and working in the RoK, while some 200,000 Koreans are residing and working in Vietnam. Together with Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families, these communities have become natural bridges connecting the two peoples.

This is PM Hung’s first official trip to Laos and Cambodia, reaffirming the high importance and priority that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam attach to relations with the two neighbouring countries. PM Le Minh Hung’s Laos visit to help deepen bilateral relations

The two countries established diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962. On July 18, 1977, they signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, providing an important political and legal foundation for strengthening bilateral ties and supporting each country’s cause of national construction and defence.
