Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam – Cambodia FriendshipAssociation (VCFA) convened a meeting in Hanoi on December 26 to review theassociation’s performance in 2019 and plans for 2020.

Speaking at the event, Vice President of the Vietnam Unionof Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Phan Anh Son said as Vietnam will hold ASEANChairmanship next year, external work, especially people-to-people diplomacy,will contribute to promoting ties between Vietnam and neighboring countries,and between Vietnam and Cambodia in particular.

He asked the VCFA to enhance information sharing withCambodian mass organisations, hold seminars with Cambodian scholars,businesspeople and statesmen to raise their awareness of traditional tiesbetween the two nations, as well as the Vietnamese Party, State and people’scontributions to Cambodia’s independence in the past.

This year, the VCFA together with the VUFO and the LiaisonBoard of former Vietnamese experts assisting Cambodian revolution held a tripto Cambodia from March 19-25 for 80 former voluntary soldiers, experts andfamilies of Vietnamese martyrs who laid down their lives on Cambodianbattlefields.

The VCFA also held a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the southwest border defencewar victory, and the fifth gathering of sponsor families for Cambodian studentsin Vietnam.

Its Khmerlanguage centre improved teaching quality and raised the awareness of learnersabout bilateral friendship and solidarity via events and visits by the twocountries’ leaders.

Next year,the VCFA will hold celebrations for the 41st anniversary of the southwest border defencewar victory and the joint victory of Vietnamand Cambodia over the genocidal regime, its 45th founding anniversary and thefifth National Congress.

At the event, VUFO Vice PresidentSon presented the PM’s certificates of merit to individuals and organisationsin recognition of their active contributions to the Vietnam – Laos, Laos –Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year./.
