Top law makers of Vietnam and Cambodia have expressed hope for stronger cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Tong Thi Phong and the second Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia Tep Ngorn shared the view at their meeting on September 21 on the fringes of the 34 th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-34) in the Brunei capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan.

Vice Chairwoman Phong suggested that the Vietnamese and Cambodian legislative bodies continue to coordinate with each other at important inter-parliamentary forums, as well as in addressing issues arising in international relations and external relations of both countries.

She congratulated Cambodia on the success of its fifth parliamentary election, and affirmed that Vietnam always considers the solidarity between the two countries an invaluable common asset which should be further consolidated from generations to generations.

She noted with pleasure the strong development in the two countries’ legislative ties over the past years under the motto of “good neighbours, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”.

The legislator voiced her hope that the Vietnamese and Cambodian delegations to the AIPA-34 will closely work with each other to contribute to the event’s success, serving the common interests of ASEAN as well as the two countries.

For his part, Tep Ngorn expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Government and people for their support to Cambodia during the cause of national liberation and construction.

Cambodia always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive with Vietnam, he said, adding that Cambodia hopes Vietnam will continue to assist Cambodia in human resource development.-VNA
