The 30th session of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee on Economics, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation opened in Havana on September 17.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung, head of the Vietnam-Cuba Subcommittee, while the Cuban delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, head of the Cuba-Vietnam sub-committee.

Speaking at the event, Malmierca praised Cuba-Vietnam cooperation in the past, saying that both countries have pledged to continue strengthening and consolidating their traditional friendship, faithful fraternity and comprehensive cooperation between their Parties, Governments and peoples.

On the basis of cooperation plans for 2012-2013 and in the following years, Governments and businesses from both countries have introduced effective measures to bring bilateral economic-trade cooperation on par with political ties, he said.

The Cuban minister said he hoped that Vietnamese companies will continue to invest in Cuba in oil, gas and minerals exploration and exploration, renewable energies, tourism, computing and information and agriculture.

Dung reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance of supporting the Cuban people’s revolutionary cause. He also highlighted Cuba’s solidarity, support and assistance to Vietnam during national liberation in the past as well as its current development.

Vietnam is interested in areas that Cuba is strong in, especially bio-technologies, he said, adding that the country is ready to work with Cuba in fields that it boasts expertise, particularly in developing agricultural projects.

Vietnam will do its utmost to step up trade, cultural, educational, and scientific-technological cooperation between the two countries, he stressed.

Later the same day, Dung was received by the Vice Presidents of Cuba’s Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Marino Murillo.-VNA
