The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Cuban Communist Youth League wish to plan future bilateral cooperation programmes between them.
Nguyen Dac Vinh, First Secretary of Union’s Central Committee, made the statement during his talks in Hanoi with Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, his Cuban Youth League counterpart.
Yuniasky is leading a Cuban youth delegation to join a conference of the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Hanoi from May 27-31.
Vinh highly valued cooperative ties between the two youth organisations and proposed the two sides continue their support each other through international activities.
He briefed the Cuban guest of China’s illegal placement of its drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 deep inside the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam.
Vietnam pledges to solve the issue by peaceful measures and hopes for Cuba’s support in maintaining peace in the region and the world, Vinh said.
For her part, Yuniasky expressed her wish that the Vietnam youth union will continue helping Cuba in promoting the role of the youth, including young intellectuals, in its national construction and defence.
Regarding China’s illegal act in the East Sea, Yuniasky said the Cuban delegation understood the developments and measures that Vietnam had used, while stressing the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as international law.
As part of the Cuban delegation’s activities in Vietnam, Yuniasky was received in Ho Chi Minh City on May 30 by Vo Van Thuong, Vice Permanent Secretary of the municipal Party Committee. Both host and guest stressed the need to boost exchanges of ideas on matters of common concern, and agreed to support each other at youth forums around the world.-VNA
