Vietnam, GEF discuss biodiversity

Vietnam has asked the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to assist it with biodiversity, preservation, the sustainable use of biodiversity and maintaining ecological commodities and services in the future, during talks with the organisation in Hanoi on October 14.

The talkshave brought together 100 delegates from various ministries andsectors, the GEF Secretariat, donors, non-governmental organisations,international organisations, universities and research institutes inVietnam .

The event will enable Vietnam to access newpolicies and procedures that the GEF and its agencies have recentlyadopted, in order to facilitate GEF funded projects in the country whileat the same time enhancing its links with the other parties involved.

Sofar Vietnam has received GEF funding for 34 projects around thecountry and has taken part in 28 regional and global GEF projects.

GEF funding has helped Vietnam to preserve its natural resources and protect the environment.

Establishedin 1991, the GEF has allocated funding to projects with globalenvironmental benefits in the fields of climate change, biodiversity,land degradation and pollutants./.

Overseas Vietnamese ready to contribute to national transformation

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration

Under a draft decree replacing Decree 63, authorities will have to proactively pull information from databases and records for informational or technical procedures. Applicants would no longer be required to resubmit documents, and certification or information requests could not be turned into discretionary licensing through an “ask – give” mechanism.
