The visiting Vietnamese Vice State President, Nguyen Thi Doan, held talks with her Indian counterpart Mohamed Hamid Ansari in New Delhi on Oct. 1 to discuss ways of furthering cooperation in all fields.

The two sides stressed on the need to increase the operational efficiency of cooperation mechanisms already in place between the two countries.

They also highlighted the Vietnam-India business forum which will be held during the Vietnamese Vice President’s visit, to expand the economic links between the two countries.

Vice President Doan applauded the Indian government’s efforts to speed up preparations for the signing of a memorandum of understanding on India ’s recognition of a full market economy in Vietnam .

The two vice presidents agreed to increase cooperation at international and regional forums, including the ASEAN-India Forum, the East Asian Summit (EAS), the Non-Alignment Movement and the United Nations.

Vice President Doan confirmed that Vietnam in its role as ASEAN Chairman in 2010 will step up efforts to boost cooperation between India and ASEAN.

On the occasion, the Indian Vice President expressed his sympathy for the families of the victims of the recent typhoon in central Vietnam .

At the end of their talks, Vice President Doan invited her Indian counterpart to pay an official visit to Vietnam which was accepted with pleasure./.
