Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and Indonesia could further cooperation in agriculture, especially reducing poverty, developing rural areas and addressing natural disasters consequences.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai made the statement while receiving Indonesian Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Marwan Jafar in Hanoi on December 28.

He welcomed the guest to visit Vietnam on the occasion of marking the 60th anniversary of two countries’ diplomatic ties.

Indonesia is currently the fourth biggest trade partner of Vietnam in ASEAN and there is a plenty of room for the two nations to increase cooperation across politics, diplomacy, economics, trade and investment to science technology, he said.

He hailed the Indonesian Government for focusing investment to improve local living standards, particularly those inhabiting far-flung areas.

He said Vietnam is concentrating to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including agricultural restructuring, rural development and poverty reduction.

It is possible for Vietnam and Indonesia to exchange experience and obtain international support to ensure better life for locals in remote regions, he added.

Minister Marwan Jafar said his ongoing visit to Vietnam has opened up new cooperation opportunities between his ministry and the host’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

He called on the Vietnamese Government to create more favourable conditions for the two countries to realise their collaboration in the aforesaid realms.-VNA
