Vietnam, Indonesia seek to achieve 10 billion USD trade

Hanoi (VNA) –
Vietnam and Indonesiashould actively prepare for the 7th session of the Joint Committeeon Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation to seek more ways toachieve a trade value of 10 billion USD as set.

President Tran Dai Quang was speaking to Indonesian Trade Minister EnggartiastoLukita in Hanoi on May 21.

The 7th session is scheduled totake place in August this year in Vietnam, with the aim of promoting furthereconomic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

At the reception, President Quang praisedthe development of Vietnam-Indonesia relations in recent years, especiallysince the two countries formally established a strategic partnership in June2013.

He proposed that the two sides increasehigh-level diplomatic exchanges and extended an invitation for IndonesiaPresident Joko Widodo and his spouse to visit Vietnam.

The two sides were also asked to maintaincooperation in the field of rice trading to ensure food security of the twocountries.

On the issue of Vietnamese fishermen andboats which were seized by Indonesian authorities, President Quang askedIndonesia to refrain from destroying the fishing vessels, and instead work toresolve the issue in accordance with the humanitarian spirit and the strategicpartnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Indonesia Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukitaconveyed the greetings of President Joko Widodo to President Quang.

He affirmed that Indonesia attaches greatimportance to developing relations with Vietnam, especially in the fields ofeconomy and trade.

Speaking of bilateral trade which reached5.6 billion USD in 2016, the Minister believed the target of 10 billion USD by2018 is achievable.

He said he would convey Vietnam’s petitionto Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the Indonesian Ministry of MaritimeAffairs and Fisheries on the issue of Vietnamese fishermen and boats seized byIndonesia.

He affirmed that Indonesia will continue supporting and working closely withVietnam in the APEC Year 2017.-VNA
