A speaking contest in Vietnamese and Lao languages has been held in Vientiane at the National University of Laos as part of the lead-up to the 1,000 th birthday of Thang Long-Hanoi in October and the 450 th anniversary of Vientiane as Laos ’s capital in November.
At the final round of the contest, held on May 28, 17 candidates impressed the audiences with their new language skills, their deep thinkings as well as their affections for the two capital cities. Four first prizes were presented at the event.
Addressing the event, Luong Quoc Huy, the Minister at the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos , said the event helps the two countries’ young people improve their foreign language skills as well as understanding of their own country, contributing to boosting friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Somsy Nhovansay, deputy head of the management board of the Lao National University (LNU), praised the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter at the LNU for organising the meaningful event./.
