Vietnam, Laos continue to promote special relationship

The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos has been assiduously cultivated by the two countries’ leaders and people.

Laos is known as “The Land of Million Elephants” for years. This country has a majestic peaceful natural landscape and a national identity that have been preserved and transmitted from generation to generation.

Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962. The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos was established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane and has been assiduously cultivated by the generations of the two countries’ leaders and people.

The political relations between the two countries have been strongly promoted, through high-level visits and contacts between the leaders of the Party, the National Assembly, the government and localities of the two sides.

Vietnam and Laos further committed to work closely and support each other at regional and international forums. Both sides pledged to promote consensus and solidarity among ASEAN./.

The average growth rate of two-way trade turnover in the 2011-2016 period reached 4% per year. In 2018, two-way trade reached $1.03 billion, up 13 percent from 2017 and exceeded the target.

Vietnam ranks third among all foreign countries investing in Laos. At the end of 2018, Vietnamese businesses had 411 investment projects in Laos with a total registered capital of $3.7 billion.
