Vietnam, Laos’ local Red Cross organisations forge links

Red Cross societies in the border localities of Vietnam and Laos have signed cooperation agreements for the 2014-2018 period as part of the bilateral agreement reached between the two national Red Cross organisations in November last year.

The Vietnameselocalities included the northern mountainous provinces of Son La andDien Bien, and the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh,Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam.

They werelinked with the Lao provinces of Phongsali, Luang Prabang, Huoaphanh,Xiengkhuoang, Bolikhamxay, Khammuane, Savannakhet, Saravane, Sekong andAttapeu.

According to the documents signed on September 11 inHanoi, the localities will work together closely on humanitarianaffairs, providing emergency aid, conducting medical examinations andcheck-ups, and developing effective models for carrying out humanitarianactivities.

They also agreed to promote an annual exchange of delegations and openly share all relevant information in the future.

The consensus between the local Red Cross organisations wouldreinforce the solidarity and special friendship between the two Parties,States and their people, Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC) President NguyenHai Duong said.

As part of the agreement between the twonational Red Cross societies, the VNRC organised a training course for20 Laos Red Cross (LRC) workers in Hanoi from August 19-September 11,with the objective of learning from each other’s experience inimplementing humanitarian activities.

During the course,the Lao trainees discussed human resources development, communications,humanitarian diplomacy, and disaster prevention and adaptation withtheir Vietnamese counterparts.-VNA

HCM City tackles fishing violations at roots

As of December 9, all of the 4,475 fishing vessels in HCM City had registered and updated in the VNFishbase database, of them 4,268 licensed. The remainder, classified as ineligible, are strictly monitored and kept moored locally, with no permission to put to sea.

Vietnam, IAEA comprehensively assess national nuclear power infrastructure
