Vietnam Open to attract int'l athletes

The Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open badminton tournament will be organised from September 1 to 9 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Morethan 170 players will compete in five categories of men's and women'sdoubles and mixed doubles events for a total prize of 50,000 USD at theHCM City's Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium.

Indonesia will send the highest number of players, 74, followed by the hosts (46) and Malaysia (45).

TopVietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh is seeded No 3 this year at thetournament, after he dropped to No 30 in the world ranking.

Minhon August 28 lost 16-21, 17-21 to No 14 seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmarkat the third round of the World Badminton Championships' men's singlesin Copenhagen.

His teammate Vu Thi Trang also failed to continueafter suffering a quick defeat of 12-21, 7-21 to No 2 seed Shixian fromChina in the women's singles category.-VNA
