Vietnam presents gift to Cuba over its Presidency of G77 and China

The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN met its Cuban counterpart in New York on February 10 to present Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son’s gift on the occasion of Cuba starting its Presidency of the Group of 77 and China.

New York (VNA) –The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN met its Cuban counterpart inNew York on February 10 to present Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son’sgift on the occasion of Cuba starting its Presidency of the Group of 77and China.

The head of the Vietnamese mission, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, affirmed that Vietnamalways values special friendship, mutual trust and loyalty with Cuba.

He expressed his belief thatCuba will successfully assume this role and continueprotecting the interests of developing countries, and that the twocountries' missions will continue maintaining close and effective coordination atthe UN forums.

Ambassador Pedro LuisPredoso Cuesta, head of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN, stressed thatthe two countries will continue offering mutual support on issues of sharedconcern.

Founded in 1964, the G77 and China groups 134 members, including developing countries with a view topromoting collective economic interests and strengthening the capacity ofmember states in economic and sustainable development issues within the UN andSouth-South cooperation frameworks.

Vietnam is one of the 77founding members of the group. Cuba was elected as Chair of the Group and undertook this role from January 2023./.

Politburo member Nguyen Van Nen, who is also a standing member of the subcommittee responsible for drafting the Congress documents, said one of the most important and breakthrough innovations in document crafting is the early rollout of new policy decisions and strategies before the Congress convenes. These have been tested in practice and refined through lessons drawn from 40 years of Doi Moi (renewal), before being distilled and embedded into the draft documents for consideration and adoption at the landmark gathering.
