Vietnam responds to World Antibiotic Awareness Week

The Health Ministry, along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Vietnam Medical Association, held a meeting in Hanoi on November 11 to respond to the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (November 18-24).

Hanoi (VNA) –
The HealthMinistry, along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and theVietnam Medical Association, held a meeting in Hanoi on November 21 to respondto the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (November 18-24).

At the event, Director of the HealthMinistry's Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Luong NgocKhue stressed that antibiotic resistance poses an increasing threat to bothhumans and Vietnam’s economy due to the widespread and uncontrolled use ofantibiotic in health care and animal husbandry. This is a problem of the world,especially in developing countries, he said.

Vietnam has responded to the WorldHealth Organisation’s call on fighting antibiotic resistance since 2013, and isamong the first countries to build a national action plan for combatingantibiotic resistance for 2013-2020.

Taking note of Vietnam’s progressin the fight, the WHO Representative in Vietnam Kidong Park and FAORepresentative in Vietnam AlbertT.Lieberg pledged continued support for Vietnam.

The World Antibiotic AwarenessWeek aims to increase awareness of global antibiotic resistance and toencourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policymakers to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance./.

Brain-dead organ donor helps save six lives
