Vietnam, RoK delighted at progress of bilateral ties

Hanoi (VNA) – Chairwoman of the NationalAssembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with President Moon Jae-in of the Republic ofKorea in Hanoi on March 23 during which both sides expressed their delight atprogress of the two countries’ ties over the past 25 years.

Both sides said they were pleased with the strongdevelopment of the Vietnam-RoK Strategic Partnership, friendship exchangesbetween the two legislative bodies and cultural, tourism and people-to-peopleexchanges.

The two leaders agreed to encourage and facilitateexpansion of parliamentary cooperation at all levels to strengthen the twocountries’ political will towards a long-term and stable bilateral relations.

They voiced support for the two parliaments to cementcooperation to increase exchange of law-making experience and foster theimplementation of agreements between the two nations, particularly theVietnam-RoK Free Trade Agreement. They also agreed to strengthen support foreach other at international and regional inter-parliamentary forum,contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.

Chairwoman Ngan said she highly appreciated supportPresident Moon and the RoK government have provided for Vietnam and expectedthe two sides will work together to bolster the sustainable development oftheir economic and trade ties.

She urged the RoK government to back Vietnam indeveloping human resources, science-technology and the Vietnam-Korea Instituteof Science and Technology; and to expand partnership in culture, education,tourism and people-to-people exchange.

She also asked the RoK side to ensure the legitimaterights and benefits of Vietnamese citizens living in the RoK, especially bridesand second-generation children.

President Moon, for his part, affirmed his desire todeepen the strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam in various fields,saying Vietnam is a focus of the RoK’s New Southern Policy and a key partner interms of development aid.

The RoK will continue backing Vietnam to develop the supportingindustry and attract RoK investment into local hi-tech industries, Moon said.

He vowed to join Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen supportand protection of Vietnamese brides and the future generations of the twocountries.

He wants the two sides to step up cooperation in languagetraining and soon sign an agreement in social security.

Vietnam and the RoK established diplomatic ties onDecember 22, 1992. They set up their comprehensive strategic partnership inAugust 2001, and agreed to lift the ties to a strategic cooperative partnershipin October 2009. - VNA
