Vietnam, RoK strengthen E-sports cooperation

The agreement was formalised with a memorandum of understanding signed between the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) and the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) on the sidelines of the KeSPA Global E-sports Forum 2025, held in Seoul from June 6–7.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and the Republic of Korea have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of e-sports, aiming to professionalise the sector and improve the performance of national teams through the application of science and technology in management and training.

The agreement was formalised with a memorandum of understanding signed between the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) and the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) on the sidelines of the KeSPA Global E-sports Forum 2025, held in Seoul from June 6–7.

According to VIRESA President Do Viet Hung, the partnership will focus on talent exchange, education and training, and the co-organisation of intensive training programmes and cultural exchange activities through e-sports.

Hung noted that the RoK’s strong track record in international e-sports could offer valuable insights and expertise to support Vietnam in advancing its own development goals in the field.

This latest agreement was built on an earlier cooperation deal signed in early 2021, under which the two sides have worked to unlock their mutual potential and pursue professional, internationally-standardised development in the field. Over the past four years, Vietnam and the RoK have hosted a range of initiatives, including forums and friendly tournaments.

The collaboration is expected to contribute to Vietnam’s achievements at upcoming regional and international sporting events, including the 33rd SEA Games (December 2025), the Asian Youth Games (October 2025), the 20th Asian Games (2026), and the Olympic Esports Games (2027).

Hung also shared insights into the requirements for e-sports to become an official sport at major sporting events.

The 2025 KeSPA Global Esports Forum brought together policymakers, international organisations, national e-sports federations, and industry representatives to discuss sustainable development for the global e-sports industry./.
