Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 20,000 domestic violence cases have been reported each year in the last five years with increasingly serious violence, according to Ministry of Health statistics.
One person is killed every two or three days due to domestic violence, the majority of them women and children, said a report by non-governmental organisations that was released at a conference in Hanoi on November 28.
To respond to the problem, the Ministry of Health has spread information on the Law on Domestic Violation Prevention, while guiding health care facilities to report patients who are victims of domestic violence.
Along with providing health care services for victims, the ministry has coordinated with authorised agencies in handling domestic violation cases in line with law.
During the conference, the ministry launched an action month for gender equality and gender-based domestic violence prevention, which calls on men to become pioneers in preventing violence against women.-VNA
