Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnamese People’s Police sports delegation won 15 gold, four silver, and six bronze medals, making a strong impression at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in Birmingham city, Alabama State of the US from June 23 to July 7.
The event brought together thousands of athletes from over 70 countries around the world.
This year, the delegation competed in firefighting, rescue and relief operations, and high-performance sports such as swimming, boxing, athletics, shooting, Jujitsu, Karate, Muster, stair race, and half marathon. With 44 members, the team underwent thorough and disciplined preparation, both in terms of professional skills and mental readiness.
Major Hoang Linh Chi led the delegation’s gold medal count with four golds in swimming, dominating the 50m breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle events. Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thi Thu Hang and Captain Tran Thi Thuy each added to the medal haul with one silver and one bronze.
Shooting - a traditional strength of the Vietnamese People's Police sports team - affirmed its dominance with three gold medals and one bronze. Notably, marksman Trinh Thu Vinh, who previously qualified for the Olympics, secured both individual and team golds. Her victories played a key role in placing Vietnam among the leading countries in Asia.
In athletics, speedster Lieutenant Ngan Ngoc Nghia reaffirmed his top form with two gold medals in the 100m and 200m sprints. Meanwhile, Second Lieutenant Dang Hoang Anh earned a silver medal in the 400m event.
Karate also proved to be a "gold mine" for Vietnam, with three gold medals and one bronze. Standout performers included Nguyen Ngoc Tram in the women’s individual kata, To Hai Nam in the men’s individual kata, and the men’s team kata trio of Le Xuan Hung, Nguyen The Hoang, and To Hai Nam.
Jujitsu made its mark with two gold medals won by Le Kien in both Gi and No-Gi combat events. Meanwhile, Major Nguyen Phuong Anh brought home a gold medal in boxing.
Notably, for the first time in the history of Vietnam's participation at the Games, the firefighting and rescue team secured an impressive 4th place in the team rankings, and earned two silver medals.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, beyond the medal count, these achievements reflect a strong leap in strategic mindset, training quality, and the international competitive spirit of the Vietnamese People's Police Force.
