Can Tho (VNA) – The 2025 Can Tho Open Sailing Regatta was held on December 29, offering an engaging sporting event that helps showcase the beauty of the Mekong Delta province’s riverine landscape to domestic and international visitors, while meeting the public’s cultural and spiritual needs.
According to Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the race was part of a series of activities marking the Can Tho River Culture Festival. The event attracted eight teams, with 16 athletes representing various provinces and cities across the country.
The race aims to promote sailing in the city while highlighting Can Tho’s distinctive river-based culture. It also created a vibrant sporting atmosphere, contributing to the development of water-based sports movements and the effective utilisation of the city’s urban waterways, thereby enriching Can Tho’s range of distinctive tourism products.
The 2025 Can Tho Open Sailing Race was contested on a two-lap point-scoring format, with each lap covering a distance of 2,500 meters on the Hau River. Each sailboat was crewed by two athletes, meeting international standards, who do not use engines. Athletes can only navigate using wind, water, and skill.
At the conclusion of the race, Tan Dai Phong 2 claimed first prize, followed by Tan Vien Dong 3 in second place, while Tan Vien Dong 1 secured third place./.
