Vietnam, South Africa cooperate in crime combat

The Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPPV) and the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa (NPA) have agreed to cooperate in crime combat through rapid and effective criminal judicial assistance.

Pretoria (VNA) – The SupremePeople’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPPV) and the National Prosecuting Authority ofSouth Africa (NPA) have agreed to cooperate in crime combat through rapid andeffective criminal judicial assistance. 

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to thiseffect was signed during talks between the SPPV delegation and representativesof the NPA in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 11.

Under the MoU, the two sides will also exchangedelegations to maintain and enhance friendship and mutual understanding, shareexperience and discuss prosecution-related issues.

They will join hands in training to improvecapacity for prosecutors, especially in witness protection, and exchange legaland judicial documents.

At the talks, Vietnam’s Prosecutor General LeMinh Tri expressed his delight at the fruitful development of relations betweenVietnam and South Africa, and between the two agencies in particular.

The signing of the MoU aims to create a legalframework for collaboration between the prosecution agencies of Vietnam andSouth Africa, especially in crime combat, thus helping spur socio-economicdevelopment in each country.

The affiliation is also expected tocontribute to consolidating and strengthening the friendship between Vietnamand South Africa on the occasion of the 25th anniversary ofbilateral diplomatic ties, he said.

Silas Ramaite, Acting National Director of PublicProsecutions of South Africa, noted his hope that the two sides will continuewith their close coordination in order to effectively realise the document.

The Vietnamesedelegation is in South Africa to attend the 23rd       International Association of Prosecutors(IPA) Annual Conference from September 8-14.-VNA
