Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnamese domain name “.vn” is still leading ASEAN in the number of registrations, according to the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC).

Vietnam is ranked seventh among the top 10 Asian countries for the largest number of national code top-level domains.

Notably, registration for Vietnamese domains is distinctively higher than international ones.

This is attributable to increasing improvements to informational security, safety and business connectivity through the Vietnam National Internet Exchange (VNIX) – a significant piece of technical infrastructure that supports internet development in Vietnam.

The VNNIC has built a management system of international standards to ensure information security and the effective operation of national internet exchange, domain name registration and database management.

It also opened training courses on domain name system security extensions (DNSSEC) for information-technology businesses and organisations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It is helping them build plans to apply DNSSEC standards to the domain name system (DNS).

The DNSSEC is able to strengthen trust in the internet by helping protect users from redirection to fraudulent websites and unintended addresses.

The VNNIC also increased cooperation with international organisations to develop the internet network in Vietnam.

Currently, Vietnam has 926,065 domain names written in Vietnamese.

As of November, the VNNIC removed 190,000 inactive Vietnamese domains.-VNA
