Vietnam to market tourism in Indonesia this August

A Vietnamese tourism promotion campaign will be held from August 3-7 in Surabaya and Jakarta cities of Indonesia, which is emerging as a critical and potential market of Vietnam.

TheVietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said the campaign willoffer a chance to popularise the country’s images, help travelcompanies seek Indonesian partners and attract visitors from thearchipelago nation.

It is a large-scale 2015promotion campaign, the administration said, noting that the VNAT isworking with the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to sell Ho ChiMinh City – Jakarta round-trip tickets for participating firms atdiscount prices.

Vietnam and Indonesia have seen anincreasing number of their citizens visiting the other country, reachingabout 100,000 in 2013 from nearly 95,000 a year earlier.

Vietnam has offered visa exemptions for Indonesian nationals sinceDecember 2003, which Indonesia reciprocated in February 2004,facilitating travel.

Nearly 8 million Indonesiansspent holidays overseas in 2013. The United Nations World TourismOrganisation forecast this figure will hit 9 million in 2017.

The VNAT said though the number of Indonesian visitors to Vietnam isstill modest, favourable conditions are now in place to attract moretourists from the archipelago country.

It added thata majority of Indonesian tourists are interested in some of Vietnam’sfamous destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay, NinhBinh, Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An. The administration also underscored theneed for more tour guides speaking the Indonesian language.-VNA
