– Vietnam attaches great importance to defence cooperation with Japan, Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh told officers and soldiers from Japan’s Self-Defence Forces at a reception in Hanoi on December 4.

He lauded the cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, especially between the two countries’ armies, in recent years.

Bilateral relations are being reinforced and expanded in various fields, he said, adding that the two nations’ leaders always pay attention to deepening defence ties.

Apart from high-level visits, increasing exchanges among soldiers have contributed to enhancing mutual trust and understanding, he said.

There is still large room for Vietnam and Japan to boost defence cooperation, he noted.

Agreeing with his host, Major General Yuichi Sakamoto expressed his belief that the two sides will open up new cooperative fields soon.

Japan is willing to share its experience in peacekeeping activities with Vietnam, he added-VNA
