Chongqing (VNA) – Vietnam attaches importance and gives priority to the development of multi-faceted cooperative relations with China, which includes the comprehensive and effective collaboration between China’s Chongqing Municipality and Vietnamese localities, an official of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has said.
Truong Thi Mai, a Politburo member, permanent member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat and head of the Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, made the statement at a meeting on April 27 with Hu Henghua, Deputy Secretary of Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of the Municipality, as part of her visit to the locality.
Mai suggested the two sides continue to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, asking Chongqing to facilitate the import of Vietnamese agricultural products, encourage its enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam and enhance cultural, education and people-to-people exchange.
She also hoped that the municipality will create favourable conditions for the opening of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing soon.
At the meeting, the Chongqing mayor briefed the guest about the cooperation between the municipality and Vietnam in general and localities of Vietnam in particular in recent years.
The official highly appreciated the fact that Vietnam has continuously been Chongqing's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) since 2019.
Chongqing is willing to work with Vietnamese localities to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as exchanging experiences in Party building, and promoting economic-trade cooperation, investment and people-to-people exchanges, he said, adding that it will coordinate with relevant agencies of the two countries for the early opening of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing.
During the working trip to Chongqing, Mai and her entourage visited the Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum, which preserves images and artifacts of President Ho Chi Minh who lived and worked there in 1939 and 1940. The delegation also learned about Party building experience at Changan Automobile Group in Chongqing.
China has been Vietnam’s biggest trade partner for many consecutive years, while Vietnam has continued to be the biggest trade partner of the neighbouring country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the fourth largest in the world. In particular, trade turnover between Vietnam and Chongqing has accounted for nearly 40% of the total trade turnover between Chongqing and ASEAN since 2019. /.
