Vietnam has affirmed its policy of developing friendship and multifaceted cooperation with the Eastern Republic of Uruguay for the benefit of the two peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions.
Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan made the statement while receiving her Uruguayan counterpart Danilo Astori in Hanoi on November 6.
The Uruguayan Vice President, who is also President of the General Assembly and the Chamber of Senators, is paying a visit to Vietnam from Nov. 5-8.
Doan stressed that Vietnam and Uruguay have the potential to cooperate in many fields, including agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, agro-aquaculture processing, information technology, telecommunications, tourism and infrastructure.
She also asked the Uruguayan Government to create all possible favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to export goods and services to as well as invest in Uruguay .
Astori said Uruguay wants to increase cooperation with Vietnam in investment, agriculture, and farm produce processing, adding that his country can supply such products as beef, fruits and wine to Vietnam .
The two leaders agreed to promote the exchange of high-ranking delegations and establish suitable mechanisms and legal frameworks to boost multifaceted cooperation.
Both sides also decided to hold political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries on a regular basis, and coordinate with each other at international organisations and multilateral forums.
The two sides also pledged to support each other in running for a seat in the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2014 – 2016 tenure.
Vice President Doan said Vietnam will back Uruguay ’s bid to stand for election to the UN Economic and Social Council in the 2016 – 2018 tenure and to the UN Security Council for the 2016 – 2017 tenure.
Meanwhile, Uruguay will back Vietnam in running for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2020 – 2021 tenure, Astori said.
