With its strength in rice production, Vietnam is willing to support the Republic of Chad with technology and experts in the field, as well as rice varieties and suitable cultivation processes, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat has said.

Speaking at a conference in Hanoi on May 28 to review the Vietnam - FAO - Chad tripartite cooperation agreement and discuss cooperation areas in the future, Minister Phat said Vietnam will send more experts to Chad, while helping the country train its personnel in the agricultural sector.

In implementing the agreement, between 2011 and 2012, Vietnam sent agricultural experts to Chad to support the country in various fields such as cultivation, breeding, irrigation planning, agricultural mechanising and raising honey bees.

Chad Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Dangde Laobele Damaye said his country hopes to cooperate with Vietnam in many fields, especially in agriculture and farmer training.

He said Chad is in need of technological support in order to use agricultural machines more effectively. The Minister added that the language barrier hinders the efficiency of the work.

According to a FAO representative, as a leading country in poverty reduction and ensuring food security, Vietnam’s goodwill to send experts to help other member countries is suitable to the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s South-South Cooperation strategy.-VNA
