The Embassy of Vietnam in Russia on October 23 launched a fundraising ceremony to help people in Vietnam overcome consequences of natural disasters.

Moscow (VNA) - The Embassy of Vietnam in Russia on October 23 launcheda fundraising ceremony to help people in Vietnam overcome consequences ofnatural disasters.

Representatives from the Business Association and the Vietnamese Association inRussia and overseas Vietnamese in Russia attended the event along with theembassy’s staff.

At theevent, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Son called on theparticipants to aid affected people, helping them to overcome aftermath of therecent floods and stabilise their lives.

Afterthe drive, the embassy will send a working mission to visit and hand over thedonation to flood victims in provinces that suffered the most in the recentdownpours and floods.

In theflooding in late 2016, the working delegation of the embassy and the VietnameseAssociation in Russia presented 10 motorboats worth 40 million VND (1,760 USD) each and 100life jackets to people in the central provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Continuous downpours from October 10 triggered floods and landslides inVietnam’s northern and north central regions, causing huge losses in humans andproperty.

Up to 75 people were killed, 38 injured and 28 others went missing. Morethan 2,600 households were forced to evacuate.-VNA

Russia waives visa requirements for Vietnamese tourists

According to a notice published on the official website of Russia’s Ministry of Justice, Vietnamese citizens can now stay in Russia for up to 30 consecutive days, provided their purpose of travel is not employment.

Saigon River pedestrian bridge set to be joined on October 21

The assembly comprises a main bridge structure weighing about 1,400 tonnes and a specialised steel supporting frame weighing around 2,000 tonnes. During testing, about 30 self-propelled modular transporters were used to lift the assembly 40cm off the ground for technical inspections. Sensors and monitoring equipment recorded key parameters.
