Vietnamese expats in Italy help repair schools in disaster-hit central areas

Overseas Vietnamese in Italy have raised nearly 300 million VND (around 13,200 USD) to finance the repair of schools in remote areas in central Vietnam which were hardly hit by natural disasters last year.
Rome (VNA) – Overseas Vietnamese in Italy haveraised nearly 300 million VND (around 13,200 USD) to finance the repair ofschools in remote areas in central Vietnam which were hardly hit by naturaldisasters last year.

Donations have been sent to the Vietnam-Italy FriendshipAssociation by not only Vietnamese but also Italians, with the Italy-Vietnam Mutual Assistance Association, the Vietnamese Students’Association in Italy, the Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association, the Italy-Vietnam Cultural Bridge Association, theItalian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, and the association of Italian families withadopted Vietnamese children among the donors.

The sum has been used to repair a school for childrenwith disabilities in Le Thuy district of Quang Binh province and a kindergarten in Huong Hoa district of QuangTri province and help these schools replace equipment damaged by flooding.

At the beginning of 2021, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-ItalyFriendship Association Tran Thanh Quyet and former President of the Vietnamese Students’Association in Italy Phan Hoang Nam visited the schools to survey their needsand develop plans for the repair. The repair was completed last month,thus improving the learning environment for local students.

Earlier this year, about 80 million VND sourced from a fundfor central Vietnam has been used to aid Vietnam’s COVID-19 response efforts./.
