
Hanoi (VNA) – Renowned gymnast LeThanh Tung has become the second Vietnamese athlete to qualify for 2020 SummerOlympics (Tokyo 2020), which will be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 24 toAugust 9, 2020.
Tung entered the men’s vault final at the 49th InternationalGymnastics Federation (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, which istaking place in Stuttgart, Germany on October 4-13, after staging an excellentperformance and gaining 14,633 points.
According to the FIG’s regulation, each athlete needs to be in top three ofeach category so as to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Although Tung ranked fifth in the vault qualification, he got an Olympic berthas among the eight qualified for the finals in the men’s vault, five of themhave won tickets to Tokyo 2020 in the team events.
Tung, born in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City, was the first Vietnamese gymnastbagging the gold medal at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2017.
Earlier, talented swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang won the first ticket to the Tokyo2020 in July./.
