Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong hosted a reception inHanoi on December 11 for visiting Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha BorvorThipadei Hun Manet.

PresidentThuong congratulated Cambodia on successfully holding the extraordinarycongress of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and electing Hun Manet as VicePresident of the CPP.

Heaffirmed Vietnam always supports Cambodia's national construction anddevelopment process, and believed that under the sound rule of King Norodom Sihamoni,the leadership of the Senate and the National Assembly, and the management ofthe Government led by PM Hun Manet, the Cambodian people will continue toachieve many new accomplishments in national construction and development,helping to elevate Cambodia's role and position in the international arena.

Vietnamalways treasures and wants to ceaselessly strengthen its friendship andcomprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, the President said.

PM HunManet expressed his delight at paying the first official visit to Vietnam inhis new capacity, which is also his inaugural trip to an ASEAN country. Heaffirmed that his visit aims to further nurture the "good neighbourliness,traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-termsustainability" between the two nations.

On theback of important cooperation achievements between the two countries, the newCambodian Government will continue with efforts to develop the bilateral tiesin a more intensive and extensive manner, he said.

Expressingtheir satisfaction with the positive development of the bilateral relations,the two leaders spoke highly of the regular exchange of visits and meetings atall levels and through various channels, adding that the two sides haveeffectively leveraged mechanisms for bilateral cooperation.

Theyagreed to further boost cooperation in politics, national defence-security,economy-trade, science-technology, agriculture, tourism and people-to-peopleexchanges. They also pledged to continue strengthening collaboration ineducation-training and improving the quality of human resources, educatingpeople of both countries, especially the young generation, about thelong-standing relations and achievements of their friendship and comprehensivecooperation.

Onthis occasion, the Vietnamese leader thanked and suggested Cambodia continuecreating favourable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia towork, live, and integrate in the host country, and have their legal papershandled more conveniently.

Heunderscored the importance of continued efforts from both countries to completethe remaining 16% of border demarcation and marker planting, aiming to continuebuilding a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development betweenthe two nations.

PresidentThuong also reiterated his invitations to King Norodom Sihamoni and QueenMother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to soon visit Vietnam again and asked the PMto convey his regards to the King, the Queen Mother and other senior leaders ofCambodia./.

Key Vietnamese Party official lays wreaths at monuments in Phnom Penh

This is the first official visit to Cambodia by Tu in his capacity as Politburo member and Permanent member of the CPV Central Committee's Secretariat. The visit takes place at a time of significant political and cultural importance, as Cambodia is preparing to celebrate its traditional New Year festival, Chol Chhnam Thmey. It also follows Vietnam’s successful organisation of the 14th National Party Congress and the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels, as well as the consolidation of its leadership apparatus and rollout of new strategic orientations.
