The students, namely Ngo Thi Nham, Le Thi Kim Ngan, who are studying in Russia and Tu Minh Ngoc, who is undertaking a course in the US, are among winners of the “Many Languages, One World 2016 Student Essay Contest”.

At the contest, participants were asked to write an essay of about 2,000 words discussing global citizenship and cultural understanding and the role that multilingual ability can play in fostering these.

The essay must be written in official languages of the United Nations, which are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

From a pool of over 3,600 entrants, 60 students from 36 countries and 54 universities were selected to attend the youth forum.

The contest is the third of its kind held by the British ELS education group and the UN’s Department of Public Education.

At the forum, along with other 57 students from all over the world, they presented their viewpoints on the importance of multilingual ability in the process of realising the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.-VNA
