Vietnam and Luxembourg have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) detailing administrative procedures in international adoption between the two countries within the framework of the Hague Convention.

The deal was formalised during a working visit to Luxembourg by Vietnam’s Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong on July 8, in which he held talks with his counterpart Octavie Modert and Luxembourg’s Minister for Family Affairs and Integration Marc Spautz.

During the talks, Cuong said the agreement will allow disadvantaged Vietnamese children the chance to be fostered by parents in the European country.

Vietnam will conduct the necessary procedures in line with the two countries’ laws, he pledged.

He emphasised that Vietnam treasures and nurtures its friendship with Luxembourg, one of its important partners in the European Union.

Cuong made clear his hopes the the Luxembourg Government will continue assisting Vietnam to promote bilateral links in many areas, especially in judicial frameworks.

He also suggested Luxembourg help Vietnam implement the Vietnam-European Union Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) while supporting the Vietnamese Government’s bid for a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 tenure.

The host ministers said the outcomes of the working sessions held with Cuong will help cement bilateral comprehensive cooperation, particularly in the legal and justice sectors.

Cuong and his delegation will now continue their European tour, paying working visits to Hungary and Romania.-VNA
