Hanoi (VNA) – A 26-member team from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security on March 31 morning arrived in Myanmar’s Sagaing city, approximately 12km from the epicentre of a devastating earthquake, to commence search and rescue operations.
Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Police Department of Fire Fighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue, who leads the team, said they held a brief meeting with Myanmar’s Emergency Operations Centre upon arrival.

They then quickly proceeded to the site of a collapsed building, about 20 minutes from their base, where they used sniffer dogs to locate a man and a woman trapped. Apart from Vietnam, other countries across the region and the world have swiftly launched emergency assistance measures for Myanmar following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that claimed more than 1,700 lives and left hundreds injured or missing./.
