Vietnam were knocked out from the route to the 2012 London Olympics after their 1-6 loss to Saudi in the second qualifying round match on June 23 at Hanoi's National My Dinh Stadium.

The defeat came after Vietnamese coach Phan Thanh Hung and captain Nguyen Trong Hoang told a press briefing one day earlier that they would have a better game and result against a stronger opponent.

The loss was mainly attributed to misunderstandings between players and their shortage of physical strength. They have gathered together for training for just a few weeks.

Saudi opened the score at the 10 th minute and raised the score to 2-0 at the 29 th minute.

The visitors' third goal followed a defence mistake.

Vietnam had several chances to get a goal, but. The players failed to make it

The inexperienced Vietnamese players suffered a fourth loss at the 84th minute. Hassan drew the attention of the Vietnamese before passing the ball to Abdulrahim Jerawi, who tapped it into the net.

The only goal scored by the hosts was by Le Van Thang in the last minutes of the first half.

Winning 6-1, Saudi enter the next qualifier which is scheduled for September 21-March 14.

In another match of the second Asian qualifier, Yemen lost 0-4 to Australia. /.
