Representatives from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Taiwan (China) trade association in Vietnam held a ceremony on September 16 to present a house to an Agent Orange victim’s family in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.
The 50-sq.m house cost 46 million VND (2,160 USD), of which 30 million VND came from the VNA fund for the AO pain and the Taiwan Trade Association, while the remaining was contributed by local authorities and people.
The beneficiary, Nguyen Tan Nang, whose child is an AO victim, lost his thatched house in Nhon Hoa Lap commune, Tan Thanh district during a whirlwind in 2011.
One day earlier, the VNA’s representative office in Long An province and Ho Chi Minh City-based Binh Minh Software Solutions JSC granted a 60-million VND house to AO victim Nguyen Thi Hong in Hung Thanh commune, Than Hung district.
Hong also lost her house in a whirlwind in late 2012.
The VNA fund for the AO pain has to date helped build close to 50 houses across the nation with a total cost of nearly 5 billion VND (235,000 USD), contributing to relieving the pain and loss of the victims.-VNA
