Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony to present the 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards took place at the National News Agency Centre, Hanoi on May 17.

According to the jury’s evaluation, the quality of this year’s entries was quite equal. The content of entries was diverse, covering most of the major issues of both home and abroad which have grabbed public concern.

Dynamic reporters

The 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards attracted 307 entries, 15 works compared to 2017 in all genres, including electronic newspapers, television, press photos, external information, feature, interview, reportage, investigative reportage, among others.

After the preliminary round, the organizers selected 104 works for the final round. The awards council selected and awarded more than 50 excellent works.

Besides, the jury also gave 10 extra awards for new information categories such as breaking news, graphic information, mega story, creative and effective works...

Awards were also presented to individuals and groups of authors who overcame difficulties during the process of producing news and promising young journalists.

According to Nguyen Thu Ha - Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam News Agency’s  Journalists Association, one of the highlights of this year’s contest was the higher number of entries from bureaus compared to previous years with more than 70 works. Many of which were joint efforts among source information units, home and aboard bureau offices.

The 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards gathered many works that are the combination of modern journalism. Many reporters showed their versatility when producing information works in various types of journalism such as written articles, photographs, electronic information and video news.

“The works showed the contingent of Vietnam News Agency’s journalists who have worked hard with high sense of responsibility. They coordinated with relevant authorities to find solutions for many pressing issues in the society. Not only that, many authors have shown strong political spirit, intelligence and overcome material temptations. They even faced many dangers to bring the public updated and transparent news in comprehensive and timely manner, contributing to fullfilling the political tasks assigned by the Party, State and people," said journalist Le Quoc Minh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency.

In addition to new progresses, the 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards still has limitations and shortcomings such as the lack of investigative works, anti-negative acts, among others.

VietnamPlus wins big at 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards

 At the 2018 Vietnam News Agency Press Awards, VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper was one of the units which had the biggest number of entries in the final round. VietnamPlus won one A prize with the work “Ky su duong sat Bac Nam” (The North-South railway narrative) (group work), one B prize with the series “Toi ac duoi nhung tan rung ranh… Cua dong nhung ruot van rong” (Crime under the green forest….Closed doors but the intenstine was still empty) by Manh Hung, and one C prize with the series “Don bay lanh manh hoa thi truong thuc pham chuc nang” (Healthy leverage – a bundle of supplement food market) by Cao Giang.

Reporters of Vietnam News Agency not only approached reality, collected information and data but also conducted interviews with management agencies and authorities such as leaders of health industry, market managers, among others to have a widen look in order to conduct sound and objective entries.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Standing Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association Ho Quang Loi said, up to now, the Vietnam News Agency’s annual press award has proved its prestige in the society./.
