VN’s efficient use of loans for poverty reduction hailed

In a recent interview with aVietnam News Agency correspondent in the US, Axel van Trotsenburg, WBVice President for East Asia and Pacific, noted that the WB and Vietnamhave shared visions on various fields, especially poverty reduction -one of the WB’s most important goals.

Over the past five years, the WB has provided a combined loan of 1.9 billion USD for Vietnam, according to Trotsenburg.

He said his institution will continue supporting Vietnam’s efforts ingaining more of its loan sources and using them efficiently.

Regarding Vietnam’s economic growth and stability in recent time, theWB official noted a slowdown in economic growth compared to 20 yearsago.

To ensure its long-term growth, Vietnam should attachimportance to stable macroeconomic indicators and pay attention to therestructuring of state-owned enterprises and the reform of the financialsystem, he said.
The WB official also made it clear thatmost countries around the world must always make adjustments to adapt tothe global changes, and Vietnam is not an exception.

Thecountry needs to centre investments on education and training to helpits youngsters well prepared for the global labour market in the comingtime, he said.-VNA
