Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of theVietnam Union of the Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and Vietnam – USFriendship Association hosted a delegation of US legislative assistants inHanoi on April 16.

The delegation consists of 10 assistants toUS senators and congressmen from the Democrat and Republican parties on aworking visit to Vietnam from April 12 to 20

The trip is part of a programme themed“Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership for peace and prosperity” and aims atboosting ties between the two nations and their parliaments in various areas,including trade collaboration, alleviation of war consequences, the East Seaissue, response to climate change and cybersecurity.

At the meeting, VUFO President Nguyen PhuongNga said the visit will help delegates obtain knowledge on Vietnam’s socio-economicand political affairs.

People-to-people exchange has been animportant factor in Vietnam – US relations, she added. 

Nga said she hopes Vietnamese and US youthswill contribute to bilateral ties and that more US citizens will come toVietnam to work and invest.

For their part, the US delegates expressedinterest in exchange and cooperation programmes to deal with war aftermath inVietnam as well as in the performance of US-based nongovernmental organisationsin the Southeast Asian nation.

They said these activities would boostmutual understanding and collaboration between the two peoples in all spheres.

During their trip, the delegation isscheduled to visit a care centre for disabled kids in Da Nang city and a dioxindetoxification site at Da Nang Airport; attend the launching ceremony of adioxin detoxification project at the Bien Hoa Airport; visit a climate-change-impactedsite in Vinh Long province; and tour Ha Long Bay, among other activities.-VNA

Two wanted for abusing religious cover to undermine national unity policy

The fugitives are Di (also known as Siu Di), born in 1941, and Dinh Yum (also known as Dinh Jum or Ba Koih), born in 1963, from Ba Na ethnic minority group in Gia Lai province, and hold Vietnamese nationality. They have been charged under Clause 1, Article 116 of the Penal Code for undermining the national unity policy.

Support delivered to Khmer households for traditional New Year
